High Wycombe

Town Twinning

Group visit to Kelkheim - September

This year’s trip took place on the weekend of the 8th – 10th September. In the group was the Mayor of High Wycombe, Councillor Brian Pearce and the Mayoress, Mrs Helen Shingleton.

This year’s visit had a full programme:

On Friday we were met at Frankfurt airport and taken to Kronberg, a medieval town at the base of the Taunus Hills. We had a guided tour of the town and its 13th century castle.

On Saturday we visited Mainz where we had a tour of the Gutenberg museum and a walk around the city visiting the cathedral.

On Saturday evening, there was a dinner for the visitors and their hosts. This was attended by the Mayor of Kelkheim who exchanged gifts with the Mayor of High Wycombe.

On Sunday we visited a jazz festival in Höchst Old Town, Frankfurt before going to the Kelkheim Museum where we were given an entertaining talk entitled Machiavelli to Trump.

Youth visit

A project with Kelkheim and Wycombe Youth Action has resulted in a group of ten girls from High Wycombe visiting Kelkheim for a week at the end of October. It is hoped that there will be a reunion for the girls in August 2018.
